The Williams & Humbert cocktail competition

Organised by Bodegas Williams & Humbert, Master Cocktail is the cocktail competition that was born in 2019 to reach professionals in the sector. A platform to promote the creativity, talent, technique, and work of cocktail professionals alongside prestigious brands such as Ginebra Cubical, Ron Dos Maderas, and Brandy Gran Duque de Alba. Preparing a cocktail with one of these Williams & Humbert brands is one of the requirements to participate in this competition, whose fifth edition begins in July 2024. All the information to participate in Master Cocktail, as well as the different awards available to the winners, is available at mastercocktail.es

In this issue of Global, we share the experiences of the two winners of the last two editions of Master Cocktail during their visit to the Williams & Humbert winery, where they prepared their winning cocktails.

Luciana Gutiérrez Andreoli, winner of Master Cocktail 2022-2023 and her winning cocktail
“Pasito por la Frontera”

Bartender with her cocktail and Williams & Humbert bottles

Pasito por la Frontera is a “super fresh” cocktail into which Luciana has poured tremendous affection. When its creator was deciding what type of mixed drink she would present to the competition, she wanted to take as her reference all those values that Bodegas Williams & Humbert conveyed to her, and specifically Jerez de la Frontera. Thus, for Luciana “this winery is a perfect combination of tradition and elegance in a classic setting, yet at the same time modern and contemporary. Of course, we wanted to make our own contribution and for this proposal to tell a story, our story of crossing borders”. The result is a straightforward cocktail without ceasing to be sophisticated, relying for its preparation on the products of Bodegas Williams & Humbert. In Luciana’s words “Master Cocktail has been a marvellous experience for us and we will always tell the entire world how proud we are to be part of Bodegas Williams & Humbert”.

Daniel Morales Leal, winner of Master Cocktail 2023-2024 and his winning cocktail “Clear Mary”

Bartender garnishing a cocktail in the winery

One of the most widespread theories affirms that the international Bloody Mary was created by Fernand Petiot, who first prepared this drink in 1921 at Harry’s Bar in Paris. More than 100 years later, Daniel Morales creates a twist on this classic for Bodegas Williams & Humbert featuring Brandy Gran Duque de Alba as the principal ingredient. A tomato and artemisia water that will provide nested and sweet notes, the spice is contributed by the classic blend of Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, and Timur black pepper, and Pedro Ximénez Don Zoilo 15 years is also added. As Daniel Morales states: “A Spicy Mix that we clarify in order to obtain a cleaner and less aggressive blend. The citrus element will be incorporated by a crystallised lime cordial. As for the saline component, we will make a dilution of water, salt, and EVOO. We will finish with a perfumed dried tarragon leaf”
